After watching the Mike Winger / Minor Prophet collab on youtube, which featured four and a half hours of credible evidence of The Passion Translation’s disqualification as a Bible translation or even legitimate paraphrase, I decided a short reaction encouraging my fellow believers to care about this might be helpful. Feel free to give it a watch, and if it’s helpful for reaching people you know, feel free to share:
. . .And if you want to watch Mike Winger & Minor Prophet’s 4.5 hour video with the receipts. . .I highly recommend it! Clear evidence of a very significant pattern of “lack of truth,” let’s say. Large sections throughout tPt that aren’t translations at all, just copy-pasted chunks of existing Bible paraphrases, translations and untrustworthy websites. Plus, a concerning pattern of claims of divine authority and angelic instruction being behind the text. That is rarely a good sign!
This isn’t about bringing down a person — who knows how or why Brian Simmons came to the point of doing these things? That doesn’t matter for most of us. What matters more is the truth of the Passion Translation, and whether it is safe and trustworthy, and is what it claims to be — a faithful, Spirit-led rendering of scripture.
(Spoiler: it isn’t! I’m sorry, I know it’s sad. I have a copy myself! 💛)
Another one that might interest you is Mike Winger’s video about “The Mirror” translation, which he feels is a translation (ie: Francois Du Toit did look at the original language and do his own work), but not faithful to the original text, and full of the hopes and dreams of its author. I’ve watched half this one so far, and really appreciated how Winger characterized the author: highly intelligent, and completely honest – someone who believes in what he’s doing. The problem is, the translation he created is not just flawed, but warps the scripture to the point that it often says the opposite of what the original text said.
Awkwardly, the quotes from this one sound like things I’d have had no problem with ten years ago (things that hyper-emphasize God’s love and our own significance at the expense of highlighting Christ’s glory and the fear of the Lord). This further proves to me my own ability to get off track and be deceived. . .and everyone’s ability to receive correction and get back on track. 🙂 This isn’t a hopeless situation!
Video below, for anyone interested. God bless!
